AFP alarmed by suspected coral harvesting in Rozul Reef ABS-CBN News

The Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Command on Saturday shared videos of the coral bed in Rozul (Iroquious) Reef, where they suspect that China has conducted coral harvesting. Vice Admiral Alberto Carlos, who said that there were no corals left in the area, said they suspect China to be behind the harvesting, as they were stationed in the reef before the AFP managed to drive them away in July.

According to Carlos, to their untrained eye, it seemed as if the harvesting happened recently. Rozul is part of the country’s exclusive economic zone. AFP spokesperson Col. Medel Aguilar has also said that coral harvesting is a threat to the food security not just of the Philippines but of the world.
