Bangladesh's exiled acting opposition leader calls for elections after Hasina ouster ANC
The exiled acting chairman of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Tarique Rahman called for elections to be held ‘as soon as possible,’ on Wednesday (August 7), following the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Rahman spoke virtually, alongside his mother the now freed former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, at a Dhaka Rally following her release from house arrest. Khaleda’s nemesis and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina quit as premier and fled the country on Monday (August 5) after weeks of demonstrations by students against government job quotas surged into a violent movement demanding her resignation
