Beer, pretzel, and Lederhosen: World's most famous beer festival kicks off in Munich ANC
The world’s most famous beer festival opened in Munich on Saturday (September 16) with the traditional run on the tents and cry of /”O zapft is!/” (/”It’s tapped/”) which signifies the tapping of the first beer keg by Munich’s mayor Dieter Reiter. The Oktoberfest has its origins in a horse race that took place in 1810 to celebrate the wedding of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen.
