Rappler joins a joint PCG-BFAR mission to install 10 payaos, or fish aggregating devices, within the vicinity of Rozul Reef on April 4, 2024. Two China Coast Guard ships harass and perform dangerous maneuvers against the PCG and BFAR vessels, as well as the much smaller Filipino fishing boats in the area, a feature in the West Philippine Sea well within the country’s exclusive economic zone.
