Doctor sees ‘critical’ dengue situation in Latin America as mosquitoes adapt to climate change ANC
Cases and deaths from the dengue epidemic in Peru have more than tripled so far in 2024 compared to the same period last year, according to the government, which is stepping up efforts to contain the infections especially in poorer areas of the country. The government of President Dina Boluarte announced this week that it had approved an /”emergency decree/” with extraordinary economic measures to strengthen the strategy against the epidemic. The emergency in Peru, where dengue has shown a high incidence of 330.27 cases per 100,000 population, adds to serious outbreaks in other South American nations such as Brazil and Argentina.
