Fifty-five boats paraded on the Seine river on Monday morning (June 17) during a technical test, 39 days before the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games scheduled for July 26.
They left the Pont d’Austerlitz bridge around 6:30 a.m. and went down the river for six kilometres to reach the Pont d’Iena bridge, reproducing the route of the opening ceremony, escorted by police boats.
While this test featured the second half of the boats set to parade for the Games, a first test was carried out on July 17 of last year with the first half.
A new rehearsal with the entire fleet will be carried out next Monday (June 24). In total, 94 boats including nine reserves will be used for the parade.
Two technical tests planned for April 8 and May 27 had been postponed due to the excessive flow of the Seine.
The opening ceremony, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. in front of 326,000 spectators before a finale at the Trocadero, will mobilize 45,000 police officers and gendarmes due to its unprecedented nature. -Report from Reuters
