President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. delivers a major address at the Lowy Institute in Melbourne, an Australian think tank with a global outlook, to articulate the Philippines’ role as an active participant in world affairs, on 4 March 2024. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) previously stated that the President may also take the opportunity to highlight the country’s position as a contributor to the rules-based regional security architecture. Established by Sir Frank Lowy in 2003, the Lowy Institute plays host to distinguished speakers from around the globe on foreign policy, defense, politics, aid and development, journalism, sports, science and the arts. Furthermore, it stands at the centre of Australia’s foreign policy and national security debates, where every prime minister and foreign minister has spoken since its foundation. Apart from its annual poll of Australian public opinion being cited around the world, the Lowy Institute likewise aims to be a leading online think tank. Its digital magazine, The Interpreter, was the first of its kind among foreign policy think tanks, and it also publishes groundbreaking interactive research such as the Global Diplomacy Index, the Asia Power Index and the Lowy Institute Pacific Aid Map.
