According to the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, the reporters were covering a land dispute in the area when a plainclothes cop, identified as Staff Sargeant Rhea Mae Baleos, confronted them and ordered them to leave the area.
Baleos grabbed and shoved one of the reporters who was taking a video of the scene. Out of nowhere, gunshots were heard being fired in the distance. One of the reporters said he saw policemen in uniform firing the shots.
/”Wag kayong magpapaputok! Mga media kami (Don’t shoot! We’re from the media),/” reporter Ted Tomas shouted at the scene. https://rappler.com/nation/visayas
