Sen. Pimentel, kinuwestiyon ang hinihinging P2.3-B intelligence fund ng Office of the President

Paghingi ng intelligence funds ng Office of the President #OP ang buena manong kinuwestiyon ni Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel, sa pagpapatuloy ng plenary deliberations ng Senado kaugnay sa panukalang 2024 National Expenditure Program (NEP), ngayong Huwebes, Nov. 9.

Isyu aniya para sa senador ang paghingi nito ng P2.3 bilyong intelligence fund. Ani Pimentel, isang civillian agency ang opisina, at hindi ahensya na may uniformed o military personnel.

Nakasaad kasi sa batas na ang intelligence funds ay para lamang sa intelligence gathering ng uniformed and military personnel (MUP) at intelligence practitioners na may kinalaman sa national security ng isang bansa.

“The President is both the user and the generator of confidential and intelligence information. As the commander-in-chief, he needs to make very crucial decision. So the importance of information cannot be understated,” giit naman ni Sen. Sonny Angara.

Ikinumpara pa ni Pimentel ang aniya’y “good practices” ng Amerika kung saan kung saan napupunta ang intelligence funds sa mga ahensya at hindi sa OP kahit ang presidente pa ang commander-in-chief ng Armed Forces.

Sinita rin ng senador ang joint circular na kailangan magsumite ng report ng mga ahensya na gumagamit ng intelligence funds sa OP. Dahil kasi dito, nagsusumite ng report ang OP sa sarili nitong opisina.
