Severe weather causes partial highway collapse in California's Big Sur
Winter storm conditions in California have yet again forced the closure of the state’s iconic Highway 1 near Big Sur, after part of the world-famous stretch of road that runs along the Pacific collapsed into the ocean.
Drone footage from Friday (April 5) near Rocky Creek Bridge, showed a lane of the highway partially collapsed with maintenance crews at the scene.
The highway, about 150 miles south of San Francisco, was closed on Wednesday (April 3) ahead of bad weather that moved in on Thursday.
Part of the southbound lane of the highway collapsed and remained closed, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
