Rescue operations were underway after unseasonably heavy rain caused rivers to overflow, triggering landslides in Yingde city in China’s flood-ravaged Guangdong province, state broadcaster CCTV reported on Tuesday (April 23). As of now, 41 emergency boats are in operation in the city areas that accommodate around 38,000 people, who are said to be stranded. The southern Chinese province has been battered by unusually heavy, sustained and widespread rainfall since Thursday (April 18), with powerful storms ushering in an earlier-than-normal start to the region’s annual flooding season.
