At least two earthquakes recorded above magnitude 6 hit Taiwan’s Hualien early on Tuesday (April 23). The quakes were centered on the largely rural eastern county of Hualien, where on April 3 at least 14 people died after a 7.2 magnitude temblor. Taiwan has been jolted by hundreds of aftershocks since then. Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration said the spate of earthquakes starting Monday (April 22) afternoon – which it put at around 180 – were aftershocks from the large earthquake that occurred on April 3.
