Music, glitter and giants welcome revelers in Brazil as street parties kick off for Rio Carnival
On The Scene: Dressed in bright colours and lots of glitter, revellers kicked off Rio de Janeiro’s carnival season street parties on Saturday (February 3). One of the first street parties, known as ‘blocos’ in Rio, was Ceu Na Tierra or Heaven on Earth, which first started in 2001 in the Santa Teresa neighborhood. Tourists and locals alike will be able to choose from 49 different blocos on Saturday throughout the city.
