Workers chop down a jeepney unregistered for consolidation under the PUV modernization program for spare parts or to be sold for scrap in Caloocan City on Tuesday, the last day for consolidation.

The jeepney’s operator, Fernando, /”Ka Bong/” Datu, cites the high costs involved in consolidating under the program, eventually deciding to cut down his fleet by selling its parts in order to retain some of his drivers.

The government has already previously granted several extensions prior to the deadline but transport group PISTON on Monday filed a supplemental position before the Supreme Court for a Temporary Restraining Order against the program.
