Hundreds of Muslim devotees gather at an Islamic institution in Dhaka to offer a special prayer for rain in the middle of an extreme heatwave that prompted authorities to shut down schools around the country.

Bangladesh’s weather bureau says average maximum temperatures in the capital over the past week have been 4-5 degrees higher than the 30-year average for the same period.
